“Born Under Jim Crow” comprises twenty-one life histories and oral narratives, shedding light on the experiences of Black Mississippians before the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Miss B, an active member of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) during that era, conducted extensive fieldwork using Cultural Anthropological methods while residing in West Point, Mississippi in the early 2000s. The book’s cover features a portrait of Miss B at the age of ten in 1957, taken at North Side School in West Point, MS, encapsulating the essence of “Born Under Jim Crow.
